The Heliconia plant, also known as the lobster-claw can have leaves up to ten foot long growing opposite one another. Their flowers are produced on long, erect or drooping panicles and consist of brightly coloured waxy bracts, with small flowers peeping out from them.
The Ginger Lily flower comes in red, white and pink and looks very dramatic when used in flower arrangements because of its unusual appearance.
Our Coconuts are picked unripe so there is still liquid in them, otherwise if they are allowed to ripen, the liquid inside will become part of the white flesh of the coconut. Although it takes up to a year for coconuts to mature, the trees bloom up to thirteen times per year, so fruit is constantly forming, yielding a continuous harvest year round. An average harvest from one tree is about sixty coconuts, with some trees yielding three times that amount. Coconut water is incredibly healthy, besides helping to remove toxins from the body and aiding digestion, coconuts have amazing anti-viral, anti-fungal and anti-microbial properties that help to cure disease.
Our bananas are picked green and ripened in special rooms. These rooms are air-tight and filled with ethylene gas to induce ripening which lengthens their shelf life.
